How to Pack Like a Pro

Tips from a Professional Organizer on how to pack smarter and lighter.

Whether it is a weekend getaway, a short trip or an overseas excursion you want to be able to pack smart, light and not forget an essential item. Traveling nowadays can be a little challenging due to all of the rules and regulations stipulated by the airlines.

Make a List

  • Make a list of all of the items that you will need on your trip. Such as sunblock, toiletries, the number of outfits, think of how you can multi-use a piece of clothing, bathing suit, walking shoes, sun hat and so forth.

Destination

  • Based on your destination and length of time you will stay there, will determine how many outfits and items you will need.

Dopp Kit/Toiletry Bag

  • Keeping a dopp kit ready to go is one of my personal favorites. Keep it ready to go at all times. Keep mini’s of all of your favorite products and skin regime in your kit. It is such a great thing to have ready that you can use at anytime even if you are not traveling.

Health Kit

  • This is a must! Especially if you will be traveling to a foreign country. You want to be able to bring the appropriate medicine with you. In terms of getting a Health Kit together think of: food poising, sudden fever, scrapes, stomach upset, migraine, and an allergic reaction to name a few.

Packing

When packing roll your clothes do not fold. By rolling your clothes you fit more in your suitcase and you don’t get those pesky wrinkle lines.

If you need more room in your suitcase use vacuum bags to pack your clothes. Pack your socks inside your shoes and place your shoes inside clear plastic shower bags that way they won’t dirty your clothes.

Dryer Sheets

  • Place dryer sheets between your clothes to keep them fresh and your suitcase smelling good.

Carry - On

  • Always carry a change of clothes in your carry-on because you just never know.

  • Also, keep a small zippered pouch that you can take out of your carry on and throw on your seat with all of the essentials that you will need on your flight i.e. headphones, earplugs, phone, wallet, book to read and so forth.

Have fun packing and safe travels!
