As a result of tax incentives put in place in 2008, Georgia is quickly taking over the filming industry… and it is EXPLODING!! There have been so many tv shows and movies filmed here, and they continue this spring. Here is a list of a few of them...
Many of the Marvel Movies including “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2”, “Spiderman: Homecoming”, “Ant-Man”, and “Captain America: Civil War” were all filmed at Pinewood Atlanta Studios (Fayetteville, GA).
In “Ant-Man” and “Captain America: Civil War”, the Avenger’s headquarters is represented by Georgia’s Porsche Experience Center.
"Stranger Things"—the supernatural underworld portrayed in 1983 Stranger Things is actually modern-day Atlanta. While most of the filming took place in Jackson, Georgia (about an hour drive from downtown Atlanta) there are some other places closer to the city. The former Georgia Mental Health Institute in Druid Hills serves as Hawkins Laboratory. Gwinnett Place Mall, near Duluth was transformed into the Starcourt Mall, by adding 80’s-style storefronts. East Point Baptist Church is the Hawkins General Hospital.
The Hunger Games – Catching Fire (2013) and Mockingjay Part I (2014)—Atlanta’s historical Swan Coach House stands in for President Snow’s mansion, the Goat Farm Arts Center provides the backdrop for District 12, home of Katniss, and the Marriott Marquis Hotel sets the stage for Katniss and Peeta to prepare for the games.
AMC’s popular series “The Walking Dead” is filmed in various locations throughout Atlanta.
In “The Internship” (2013) where Vince Vaughn and Owen’s Wilson’s characters have to recreate their careers and land an internship at Google, the Silicon Valley headquarters is actually Georgia Tech’s campus.
